Does Anybody Else Have Epiphanies in the Shower?
I was listening to Abraham in the shower this morning and they said something that resonated with me. It wasn’t earth shattering or groundbreaking. I’ve heard it from them before. I’ve heard variations of it from others. But for some reason it really landed in the shower this morning. Perhaps I needed the reminder. When you want something that hasn’t happened yet remind yourself of growing corn. You don’t plant the seed and wonder why you don’t have corn the next day. You trust that it’s coming, you nurture it, and eventually that trust and patience get rewarded when it’s time to harvest your bounty. I think it’s a good way to be. Simply know the outcome is inevitable even if you don’t see it happening. It’s similar to how Mike Dooley says the universe is conspiring on your behalf and there’s a lot of stuff behind the scenes going on that you aren’t even aware of. In other words, don’t worry about what you see happening because you don’t know the half of it, instead have trust that all falling into place just as it should. It's a funny thing, because we want so badly to look with our eyes and say, “well it isn’t here yet” and then focus on that lack. Which, let’s face it, isn’t really a great feeling. Scarcity doesn’t feel good. And it’s also a pretty crappy point of attraction right? And I get it, with no proof, it can be a challenge to hold onto the faith that it will all work out the way you want. It’s easy to look at your current circumstances and only see the lack of it in your life. So really it boils down to, how can we nurture that unwavering faith and trust that the final result is definitely coming? How can we tap into that part of ourselves and let go of clinging to what we don’t yet have? I think it all boils down to a perspective shift. And perhaps it’s one that has to happen in increments, but I definitely think it’s possible. Shifting the Perspective It seems to me that the biggest hurdle is looking at the now and not seeing that which you desire. Which leaves your point of focus and point of attraction on the lack of it, on the scarcity. So, let’s go ahead and look at the now and see if we can’t reframe it. Have there been instances in your life where you did have faith that something would happen, and it came to fruition even if you didn’t have a guarantee that it would? If so, you can use that to remind you that it’s possible. Because a lot of faith starts by simply allowing for the possibility of a thing. And even if you don’t have that past “proof” you can still start there. I’m not asking you to believe that a thing is true right now, I’m not saying that it might not be far-fetched, I’m not asking you if it would be difficult or if it would be hard. The ONLY thing I’m asking you is, is it possible? Your response might be, well sure if x, y, and z happened I suppose it’s possible. Rad, get rid of all the extraneous stuff, let’s just stick with it is possible. Sit with that for a little bit. “It’s possible that I can insert your desire here. I know that it’s possible. The hows and whys aren’t a concern of mine, all I have to know right now is it is possible.” Just like we don’t know exactly what’s going on under the soil when we plant corn, we don’t have to know what’s happening to make our desire a reality, just that it’s possible for it to happen. Sit with that for a while until you actually get pretty comfortable with it. Is it possible, heck yeah it’s possible! And all of a sudden, your set point isn’t one of scarcity, it’s one of possibility. You’re attracting from a place of possibility. And every time you’re tempted to say, “but it isn’t happening right now”, I want you to stop yourself and say, “But it is absolutely possible”. Now Add a Little Spice! Ok so now we’re at place where you know that the thing is possible. There’s trust that it is a possibility. Have others made it happen? Cool, you can have a bit more faith that it’s possible it can happen for you. Even if not, have there been thousands and thousands of years where people made stuff happen even when nobody else had before? Rad, why not you?! And we sprinkle in a bit more faith that the end result is gonna happen. It’s kinda fun. We took the pressure off of having it happen to just being a possibility that it could happen. But why not kick it up a notch? Why not add a little spice and seasoning? Why not make that belief easier to feel and strengthen our set point and point of attraction? How? Oh, I’m so glad you asked. I want you to imagine what it would feel like if this desire manifested into reality for you. Let’s play a fun version of What If! (For anybody who’s ever experienced anxiety and the maddening feeling of what if this bad thing happens, this is how we take the power back and make What If work for us btw.) What if you got what you wanted? What if everything went your way? How would you feel? What would you do? Fantasize, visualize, make a list, journal as if you’re past the point where it came true. Do whatever is easiest for you to picture life once it came true, but fully immerse yourself in the experience and have fun with it. I want you to feel those feelings. Do it for as long as it feels good, even if you can only hold it for a minute at first you can keep working your way up to longer. In fact, aim for 5 minutes. Then remind yourself it might be even better than you are imagining. At the end of that experience say out loud, “Yep, all that is definitely possible”. Because if the desire is possible, all that fun stuff you just pictured is also possible. And Then... Eventually you’ll get to a place where all of that is easy. You’re fully owning the possibility of it all and that’s all you need. Before you know it, little things will start happening to show you that you’re on the way to that thing happening. All of a sudden you start getting that “proof”. It’s tempting at this point to worry about timing, but just like a growing season for any crop, we don’t rush the crop or worry why it isn’t growing faster. We know that it’s happening in a timeframe that supports maximum output. If it comes too soon we may get a freeze that knocks it out, so we don’t rush it. Same thing with our desires. We allow divine timing. When we get our little signs, we celebrate and just shore up our set point of possibility even more firmly. Before long you realize that having the faith that everything is working out exactly as it ought to, is way easier than you thought it could be. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ll feel a little doubt start niggling and I remind myself of what Mike says. You don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, and there’s a lot happening to make sure your desire manifests brilliantly. The second I say that, I’m able to let go of the doubt. Then I go and celebrate all the things that are working out for me, I make gratitude lists for the things that have and are absolutely going my way. I’ve planted my seeds, I’m nurturing them, and I have absolute trust and faith that my bounty will be even more brilliant than I can possibly imagine. Shameless Self Promotion So give that a try and see the way your perspective starts shifting. What I Noticed
One of the cool parts of being a coach is that I don’t just have the feedback from my own personal experience, but also the feedback of clients and friends who’ve participated in some of my challenges and programs. You may be asking why I felt the need to share this with you but it’s because I’ve actually had some really interesting feedback from clients and realizations of my own since we did the LBL Week challenge. And here’s the really cool thing, all of it has been overwhelmingly positive! There are a few similar themes, a few parallels, and some differences too. But none of it was negative feedback, not that I thought it would be, but some of this is stuff I didn’t really anticipate. I will say the level and speed with which these results were seen varied on how open people were to shifting their perspective to (and I cringe at using this term because I know people automatically assume it’s woo woo but hear me out…) a more spiritual one. JUST WAIT! First let me share with you my definition of spirituality so you maybe don’t feel like running for the hills if “spirituality” is not your thing. This comes from my teacher and mentor davidji, “Spirituality is simply the journey we each take from our current version of ourselves to our most divine version – our most self-actualized version – where we touch perfection, glimpse clarity, bask in brilliance, and receive insights. But it’s not a one-way voyage – it’s a round-trip experience; we get to integrate the best version of ourselves back into our day to day life and incorporate these transformational life lessons into our thoughts, words, and actions.”. (See, not so bad right?) Those that had that open mindedness, or even just embraced that perspective saw a fairly radical shift pretty quickly. Those that didn’t really make spirituality a way of living didn’t see as lasting of an effect, but absolutely still noticed positive results. So let me share with you what they were. The More Spirituality Inclined I mean, we know I’m a pretty spiritually open-minded person, if I do say so myself. There may be quite a ways to go on my journey but my mind is wide open to possibilities and guidance. Some of the people who participated in LBL Week may not be as gung ho or woo-woo inclined as I am, but they have an open mind and a willingness to explore a different perspective. For those of us more on this side of the sliding scale there was a basic trend that happened. Sheer joy and coming alive during the week itself, followed by productivity, followed by a “slump” (and by that I mean a slowing down of momentum), followed by a tiny bit of worry but willingness to just let it go, followed by a complete allowing as opposed to chasing. And that allowing, and the realization thereof, was a total game changer. Let me elaborate. On the journey to joyful you find yourself in a place where you are excited to change your life. The universe works with you, you notice synchronicity left and right, things fall into place. You make a choice to change your life and it happens. But here’s the kicker, you’re usually pretty active in making that happen. It may not be a battle, you may not be chasing joy per se, but you are definitely actively pursuing it. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that because for the most part it’s an enjoyable experience and you learn a lot from it. However, when you do LBL Week you’re telling yourself I’ve taken all the action, done all the groundwork, and now I’m reaping the rewards and luxuriating in the final results. It’s a pretty big mindset shift, but you’re “only doing it for a week” so you never question it. And as you’re in that mindset you don’t question when the good stuff starts flowing your way, you allow it. Well for those of us who decided to make this a lifestyle change instead of just a week long challenge, that mindset stayed and, without realizing it at first, we never stopped the allowing process. Allowing Continued Now remember I said there was a slump and tiny bit of worry? This was when we went from actively trying to be that best version to accepting that we were and not pursuing it. There was a moment for each of us when we actually chose to not worry about it and just go with the flow. That moment is when the magic happened, that choice to allow. We all have different careers and lifestyles but we took a step back and just let the days play out the way they were going to. If we felt inspired to do something, we’d do the thing. If we knew we had a task that had to be accomplished we didn’t worry about how or when it would get done, we accepted that it would. If we didn’t know what to do, we’d just do something that brought us joy until we were inspired to do something else. There was a comfort in knowing we didn’t have to worry about it, after all we’re living our best lives and everything just works out. But even then we didn’t realize that’s what we were doing! Ok, you may be saying, “Lindley how could you not know, you just said you made a choice?”. And you’re right, we did make a choice but the choice wasn’t “to allow” it was to not worry about it. But in doing that, in choosing not to worry, we were choosing to let life just flow while we enjoyed the ride. We were choosing to allow. Then, a little later on, we realized what we had done, and how it served us. And boy did it serve us! Here’s some feedback; “I feel judgment free”, “I’m not stressing about anything”, “I’m really proud of myself”, “I’m happier than I’ve been in a really long time”, “I feel super productive”, “I’m loving myself”, “I’m high on life”. What’s really awesome about hearing people talk about themselves like that is the sense of freedom and joy that comes across in these discussions. One person even uncovered their passions and a new purpose that they are beyond excited to explore! And all this because of a one week challenge! Ok maybe a bit more than that, because hi…you spend some time with a coach who’s all about helping you love your life and things are bound to rub off...but you know what I mean. Towards the Other End of the Spectrum Now I love people who embrace the spirituality inclined path, but it isn’t a prerequisite to working with me or doing the LBL Week Challenge. As long as you have decided you’re going to start loving your life, are ready to make some changes, and are excited for the journey… then we’re a good a fit and so is the challenge. So let me share with you the experiences on the other end of the embracing spirituality sliding scale. These are my people who embraced the challenge and allowed themselves to have fun with it. And they did have fun! They were productive, they saw little moments of habitual behaviors from their old versions pop up and recognized where they could release them, they were excited to be their best selves and delighted in the good that flowed to them. Now one of those people is currently doing the week over again because she, “just loved who I was during that week”. For her the effects didn’t necessarily last in their entirety, but the memories and feelings from the week did. She didn’t decide to make it a lifestyle change but instead simply embraced the week long challenge. And by the way, that’s 100% ok. There’s no wrong or right way to do this challenge. In fact I’m thrilled that she loved that week so much she’s doing it all over again this week. Because you can absolutely do this challenge as often as you’d like. But to her, as much as she was ok with embracing it for a week she struggled to believe that she was that version all the time. She’s far enough on the spiritual spectrum to be able to visualize the best, “most divine” version of herself, just not quite far enough down to take that version of herself back into her everyday life. But she wants it, and every time we speak I can see her shifting that mindset more and more. I’ve digressed a bit but the point is, the challenge had enough of an effect that she’s doing it again. So she’s still in pursuing it mode and not quite in allowing it mode but I bet you eventually she’ll get to the same place. And I have to be honest, I’m excited as hell because once she gets there it is going to be such a beautiful thing to watch her come alive even more than she already has! Moral of the Story So, as you can see, there were no downsides to this challenge from any of the participants who shared their experience with me. For some it was life altering, for some it was just a week of loving their life. But for everyone it was an experience that they’ll never forget. Honestly, for those who didn’t have that earth shattering, life altering experience I know it’s jus a matter of time. Before they know it they’ll have also chosen to allow instead of chase, to let life flow instead of needing to take action. I’m floored by how deeply this experience effected everybody in the best possible way. Personally, I’m also really happy to keep allowing life to happen. I’m no longer worried about hows and whens. Instead, I’m totally here for the journey itself, eagerly anticipating the unfolding of life. My goal is now, and has been since the day I made my fateful choice, joy. And there is no shortage of that in my life at all. If you haven’t done LBL Week and would like to here’s the link to my free guide to setting yourself up for success. Can I Be Honest With You?
When I first started my blog my goal was simply to share my journey. Ups and downs, good and bad, my wins and my misses. That’s it, that’s all. Now I’ve come a long way since I first started my journey. So far that I get to now actively help others on their journey to having joy in their life. I get to combine my experience and the certifications I’ve gotten along the way and be of service. And I love doing what I do! But, at the end of the day this blog is still about my journey, about sharing what I learn as I learn it. And when you’re on a journey like this it doesn’t really ever end. The learning, growing, and changing never stops. The discovery of who you are, and who you were, and who you’re becoming…that’s an ongoing process. So today, I’m going to share with you one of my misses. It's not a loss, I don’t judge myself for it. (Not gonna lie, the freedom from my own judgement makes me want to cry happy tears. That was my biggest win. I don’t always sustain it, cuz habit energies and limiting beliefs don’t just disappear in an instant, but it’s very rare that it happens. But I digress.) So yeah, I’m human and I humaned last week. I hit a wee bump that knocked me of course and didn’t deal with it as well as I could have. But, with said lack of judgement, I can look at it and say, ok cool I’ve got some room for improvement there. It’s done, can’t change it but I can get honest with myself and go from there. So, here we go, ready for a peek behind the curtain at what happens when a transformation and empowerment coach ignores her pain? Let’s get raw. So There I Was I was driving down the street the other day and I looked over and out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw my ex. My heart fell into my toes for a split second and I turned to look at my mom and told her what I thought I saw. She then told me she thought she had seen him the previous week. Then, she kept bringing him up. And I could tell it’s all just a bit too fresh still for me to want to dive into it, because honestly I’m just trying to get passed it at this point. I’d like to let go of him completely. And while the way he ended things gave me absolutely zero closure and way more questions than answers, I’ve been doing better and better with said letting go. But, and it’s kind of a big but, I haven’t been doing so great about being honest about the pain. Don’t get me twisted, I’ve taken moments to cry, moments to honor it, moments to acknowledge it. But I never admitted how much it actually hurt me. Let me tell you right now, you HAVE to feel it to heal it. And I was so inclined to keep following my joy that I didn’t set myself up for healing and for letting go. So I saw the person that looked like him, talked about him on a surface level with my mom, and tried to let it go because Friday’s are not days you feel like examining your bruised heart and ego. Let me tell you right now exactly what I did wrong just in case you haven’t caught on yet, and if you haven’t no judgment because clearly I didn’t either. The second I felt my stomach drop, and later on when I pushed tears aside, I should have made some time for myself. I didn’t and so what did I do…. I lashed out at people who had absolutely nothing to do with my pain. Woops, I Had a Human Moment Yeah, that’s right. Hey habit energy, hey coping mechanism, hey low vibe energy. None of you serve me but oh the righteousness. I had power, I could be in control of those situations. Hurt people hurt people and oh man, I tried not to until I didn’t try not to. Then, the next day I finally decided to admit that I’ve still got pain around the breakup. And shout out to my bestie who pulled out all the very best skills she has for being with honest with me, and making me be honest with myself. I let it all out, and here's where having somebody you trust (be they paid professional or not) comes in handy, with her help in a way that I wasn’t able to do by myself. Sometimes it takes somebody else asking questions and making stellar points for you to finally get to the source of the hurt and let it out. I grieved, I cried, I spoke my truth even though it wasn’t what I wanted to be feeling. Because I’m a spiritually advanced chick who helps other people find joy, I don’t want to still be hurting 4 months after a breakup. But how I ever thought I could heal if I didn’t at least admit my feelings before working on them is beyond me. I needed somebody to help me understand that, and give me the safe space to admit them. So silly really, I am that safe space for people and didn’t recognize that is exactly what I needed. It's like looking in a mirror and not recognizing yourself. Oh well, still not judging myself for it. And I’m glad the cry fest happened. I needed that release, and it felt damn good to have it. Now I get to work on the healing part a bit more, but you better bet I’ll be honest about my pain now. Short Story Long As long as we don’t cling to, and form an unhealthy attachments to, our pain it’s perfectly ok to feel it. Because if we don’t, we could end up lashing out at people that just simply don’t deserve it. Like I did. Don’t be a me! Do what I say not what I do, lol. Just in case you were wondering, I have since reached out to the person I was a bitch to and apologized. Because I own my shit. Can’t change it, but I can apologize for it. Luckily for me, the people I now have in my life are pretty epic people and forgiveness comes easily to them. So yeah, I was human over the weekend. I was not embracing the best parts of me, hiding from the ugly, avoiding the pain. And guess what, there will be times I’m human again. Times I’m a little less spiritual coach and a little more raw. That’s ok, those moments will help me grow. And remember how I said I don’t judge myself? Old me would have, and I would have been a mess this week. But this newest and best version of myself, oh she’s thriving. PS: If you are wanting to get to a place where you have more joy and less judgment in your life here’s the link to 10 Minute Mini-MasterClass on releasing your blocks to happiness. It’s Free, and you absolutely deserve to be living a life that brings you joy. So What Happened Was…
I’ve noticed over the course of my journey so far that habitual energy can be an insidious presence. Sneaking up when you least expect it. Impacting your actions, your feelings, your thoughts. I like to think I’m fairly aware of it and catch it early on for the most part. But man, LBL Week showed me that it is far more prevalent in my life than I even realized. In telling myself that I am my best version and acting accordingly, when those old thoughts and behaviors popped up as frequently as they did I was honestly a little surprised. Because here’s the thing about anybody who decides to change their life into one they love and explores a spiritual path to get there… we really like to think we’re above stuff like that…but the truth is we’re not. Nope, turns out we are, in fact, only human. Now I’m happy to say I’m actually ok with that, I don’t judge myself for my humanness. I don’t think less of myself when I catch habitual energy popping up. And I certainly don’t let myself fall into a depressive state anymore because I’ve done something I consider less than ideal. But don’t get me twisted… I will absolutely be using those moments as a catalyst for growth and improvement. There won’t be any settling, because that’s just not who I am anymore. Nope, instead I will celebrate the moments that are less than perfect because I know something pretty bad ass will be coming my way because of them. You can also bet that I am now very aware of when habitual energy is rearing its head. So Habitual Energy Is What? If you aren’t familiar with the term habitual energy let me break it down for you. It’s probably pretty darn close to what you’d imagine it being. Things you do, thoughts, behaviors, actions, etc that you’re so used to doing and thinking that they simply become habit. But here’s the kicker, they don’t serve you. They might be comforting in their familiarity in some cases, but they aren’t contributing towards your highest good. Most of them probably feel pretty icky and if you were to drill down you’d see they come from lack of self-love and not feeling worthy. It can be that voice in your head telling you that you made a bad choice, or that you aren’t good looking enough, or that you’re an imposter. Honestly when it comes down to it, if it in any way isn’t celebrating that you are here and alive it’s probably habitual energy. There will be people that want to argue that I’ve gone too general here but I disagree. If you are on a journey to love your life, to change at a fundamental level, to thrive… then anything that says otherwise, or keeps you from doing anything other than that, is probably a habitual energy. Now, like I said, there’s no need to beat ourselves up over those moments when you notice them. In fact, just the fact that you noticed it is pretty damn rad, because the you that you used to be, the one you didn’t love so much, never would have even noticed those thoughts or actions as being habitual and not serving us. It’s pretty amazing what we’ve become conditioned to accepting, especially when it’s coming from us and not others. You can set, and stick to, boundaries like a champ when it comes to other people, but have you checked on your inner monologue lately? Mine wasn’t as impeccable as I thought it was once I started paying attention to it. Clarifying What You Do Want There was some pretty sexy synchronicity happening over the past few weeks though in regards to all of that fun stuff. And by fun stuff I mean noticing that I had habitual energy popping up way more often than I expected. How is that sexy synchronicity happening (you may be asking)? Well it just so happened that even though I was hyper aware of that energy popping up, I also had messages pouring in from the universe left and right reminding me not to trip out about it. An Abraham Hicks audio here, a Thich Nhat Hanh quote there. It was almost as if the universe was saying girl we’re only giving you just enough time to observe the habitual energy but not anywhere near enough time to be disappointed in yourself because of it. And I’m not gonna lie, it felt really good. Loving myself, knowing I’m a bad ass bitch that is just slaying life even in, and maybe especially because of, her moments of imperfection. I chose to focus on that. Because when does focusing on what we don’t want ever do us any favors? Think about it for a second. Think of something in your life that you don’t want or want less of. Go ahead really focus on it for a minute. What feelings are coming up? Did you feel your energy get icky? (I’m running with icky as a technical term today my friends, it’s just so accurate.) Ok now think of the opposite of that, think of what you want more of in your life. Is it joy, love, laughter, prosperity, connection? Focus on the more that you want. Maybe get a little crazy and fine tune some details of what it would feel like to have that. How did that feel? Did you feel your energy shift, get a little lighter, maybe smile a bit? You see, when you focus on and clarify what you do want it feels so much better than it’s opposite! Moral of my Story So I invite you to do that. Actually let me clarify here, I invite you to do a few things. First, take some of that LBL Week energy, the knowing you are your best self already, and pay attention to how you’re flowing through life. Next, notice when habitual energy pops up. Then, celebrate your awareness of it. Simply observe! No judging, just witness it. Maybe give yourself a high five for noticing it at all because old you wouldn’t have. And last, find its opposite, the thing you want more of and focus on that. Clarify it. And do me a HUGE favor, whenever you’re visualizing or imagining or daydreaming of your kick ass future…always leave room for OR BETTER. Because if there’s one thing I do want us all to be in the habit of, it’s never upper limiting ourselves. No go forth and have fun with it. Let me know how it goes for you. Because, as always, it’s so much fun to share our journey with the people who will celebrate you simply for being on it and I am definitely one of those people! LBL Week
So, there's a viral trend storming social media called delusional week. I love the premise, but I just can't get behind the name. If you aren't familiar with delusional week it is when you visualize a future version of yourself that is already successful, sexy, happy, and healthy. You've done it, attained everything you wanted to. Then you ask yourself, how this version of you would go through daily life. What are the habits, behaviors, mindset, etc of that person? And then, for that week that is what you do. Like I said, I can really get behind the premise of it all, but the name doesn't fit. It implies that anything you do in that week isn't really you, it isn't how you are. But, it isn't a delusion, you aren't just acting as if. You're letting that version of yourself show up and take the lead. As a Transformation and Empowerment Coach I am always in a place where I welcome growth, improvement, and an opportunity to align with my authentic self. So...I changed the name, tweaked it a bit, and decided I will try it on for size. And thus, Live your BEST Life Week was born! How I Prepped for LBL Week As soon as I decided I had to do this (because this is one of the principles in Infinite Possibilities training so how could I not?) I started getting really excited. I talked to a few people about it and they jumped on board so I figured why not invite everybody on social media to join as well. The coach in me wanted to offer a way for setting ourselves up for success, surprise surprise. So, I created a guide that had a journal prompt with questions to help frame mindset for the week and a few loose guidelines. I wanted to make sure I was fully embodying this future version in my present moment. Becoming her, being vibrationally aligned with that energy, was key. Because when you align with your best self you allow all kinds of good things to flow into your life. So, I figured out what her schedule would look like, what she would eat, how she would approach her workday, and what other elements she'd absolutely include in her day. I also tuned into how she would handle stress, unpleasant surprises, and communication. Then I did every task I could to pave the way for a smooth week. Stuff like laundry, meal planning, etc. Surprisingly enough, I had fun doing those things because I knew I was setting myself up for success. How the Week Went Well overall it was mind blowingly fantastic!. Day 1 was illuminating. I was motivated and kept wondering how I could level up, if there was anything I could do better. On the flip side I had a hiccup early on where I got a bit snappy when my flow was interrupted. But I caught it immediately and noted it. I also periodically would see thoughts coming in that did not serve me. I recognized them as habitual energy popping up and say nope, that’s a past version of me. I’m living at my fullest, my highest, and my best now. Overall, I was left happy as a clam, and even those hiccups I celebrated as an opportunity for growth. Another funny side effect is that best me really wanted to have more control over what I was putting on (and in) my body and I made a few investments so I could make more of my own food. Day 2 started with an epic realization I received during visualization (funny note I get some of my best messages during visualization time, not meditation time which you wouldn’t expect but there ya go) that had to do with a limiting belief I’ve been carrying that I needed to let go of. I promptly did so. Days 3 and 4 were interesting. I had hit a mid-week “lull” and while my mornings started out magical I ran into something I had experienced before on my overall journey. It’s a feeling that if you don’t have this huge influx of excitement, synchronicity, and real momentum going, that you’re somehow doing something wrong. Now, I know that’s not true. In fact if we keep on with our journey metaphor, sometimes you need to take a beat and pull over to just take it all in. Once I remembered that little nugget, I was filled with a calm contentment that I actually allowed myself to enjoy. Day 5 I was back to being invigorated and energized and thoroughly in love with life allowing great things to flow my way. Throughout it all I was extremely motivated to work on my online course I’ll be releasing next year and got quite a bit of progress made. The weekend was “downtime”, but productive downtime. I still kept that outlook of setting myself up for success and found extra things to do throughout my days that made me feel incredibly happy. Final Thoughts I recognized this early on, but I will definitely be carrying this on as a lifestyle change and not just a one week challenge. I felt empowered, I felt aligned, and the universe just kept sending wonderful moments my way. There were plenty of times when I would find myself in “old version” habitual energies and thoughts, but I’d catch myself early and flip the script on them. In observing my behaviors, and noting the “proof” that I was in fact living my best life I felt like I was cementing in these changes in a way that will last. The experience was fun and eye opening. Even the moments where I’d think, “oh this isn’t best version behavior”, I was excited to find opportunities for growth. And I even had a few moments where I could work on more healing, which is always a beautiful experience. The people doing it with me and sharing their experiences noticed similarities in their week as well. The stuff they used as filler, like scrolling and mindless tv time, wasn’t a part of their week. They’d catch themselves in old thought patterns and turn them around. Having aha! moments was a common experience throughout the week and noticing areas where it was time to start leveling up was exciting instead of daunting. They were also incredibly motivated and found themselves looking for productive things to do. As I start this new week I’m excited to keep applying the I AM my best self mindset, and I know I’m not alone in that. If you tried LBL Week on for size I would love to hear how it went for you. If you didn’t and you want to, here is the link for your FREE guide to setting yourself up for success. I am always around for anybody who has questions and feels like they need a little bit of support, so never hesitate to reach out. I’m Finally Free
I don’t typically like to talk about the same thing two weeks in a row. But I had a rather poignant realization last week that I think will be helpful to others in addition to myself. It was an aha! moment that just clicked effortlessly into place. Now, while it had to do with the breakup I mentioned last week, it can actually be applied to most areas of life. So let me give you a little background then I’ll dive into the realization that I had and then we can play around with applying this mindset shift in other aspects of life. The Background In general, if you aren’t familiar with me, I am a person who doesn’t really jive with the victim/victor ego based mentality that most of us humans have. I used to be that way, I was the epitome of a victim all you had to do was ask me to figure that out. (Insert wry wink here) But since deciding to change my life I no longer embrace that mindset. I am in control, I get to make all the choices, even if it’s in how I respond to situations outside of my control, I still have control over my response. It’s a lovely way to be and an empowering mindset. But as you are about to find out, I’m not perfect and that victim mentality can still sneak in without you noticing it. Enter me getting dumped the night before Thanksgiving by my boyfriend’s business partner. Yes, that’s right, he couldn’t even be bothered to do it himself. (Go ahead and scoff and sneer, I certainly won’t judge you for it.) I promptly got drunk and went to sleep because I could not deal at that moment. The next day I had about 15 minutes of being absolutely distraught followed by determination to chase my joy instead of wallow in my misery. And since then, I’ve done pretty well but I still have my moments where I can’t quite make peace with it. I honor my pain, bless him with love, and release him from my life only to have him pop back up in my mind making me feel icky all over again. And while I get over these episodes fairly quickly, I couldn’t figure out why I kept having them. The Realization So, there I was showering the other morning listening to Abraham Hicks talk about manifesting a dream home. (What you don’t do that? Insert another wink.) Suddenly the fully formed realization popped into mind and I said out loud, “Holy Shit I get it!”. So here we go, let’s give you the lead up to the grand realization. I had been putting out to the universe for quite some time that I was perfectly happy with however the relationship went. If it ended, I’d have an amazing partner next and if it stayed my guy would finally step up to the plate and be the partner I deserved. Because I knew with 100% certainty I was deserving and worthy of a loving and happy relationship. So if the universe would just help me figure out what it was I should do, that’d be nifty. Well it did…but I wasn’t paying attention. Ok to be fair I was, but I was avoiding the pain that came with the end of that relationship. So the universe said cool, he’ll stop communicating with you. I stayed in it. It said, ok now he’ll never be around. I stayed in it. The universe said, he will meet absolutely none of the needs a romantic partner is supposed to meet. I stayed in it. So the universe said, here hold my beer you aren’t gonna miss this one. And I got brutally dumped in such a way that I will never in a million years speak to let alone try to be with that man again. Keep in mind, I was putting out the frequency of I am ready for and deserving of a happy relationship. The universe said babe, it’s not gonna be with this guy and since you can’t quite let go on your own… you’re getting dumped. Have you figured out what I did yet? The Results For the past few months I have felt like a victim. I just didn’t recognize I was doing it. I was a victim of his behavior, his cold heartedness, his…lack of self worth and emotional intelligence. I didn’t proclaim myself as such, but somewhere underneath it all I had parked myself firmly in the victim camp. Until this morning when I realized, I wasn’t the victim but the perpetrator. In the best possible way!!! I had vibrated at a level higher than that man was capable of matching. I have gotten myself to an awesome place of attraction where good things are flowing my way. I took my power back, I’ve owned it and celebrated it. I live a joyful life. So of course the universe isn’t gonna let me keep somebody like him around. I deserve better. And as of this morning I actually see it as the amazing manifestation of my desires that it was. As my mom loves to say, you gotta get rid of the bullshit to make room for the magnificence. And that’s exactly what I did. When I tell you I have been giggling gleefully on and off all weekend I’m actually underselling it. It’s funny because I knew the end of that relationship meant I was open for a much better one to flow in. So I had half of the equation right. But my perspective was one of a victim. And the very second I shifted that perspective from victim to empowered bad ass boss bitch who cleared clutter to make room for the prize, ooh baby I came alive. The End-ish You’ll probably hear me say, “well you made it happen, that’s what you were putting out there” fairly often. But here’s the thing, making it happen and taking the “blame” isn’t always a bad thing. Just like I didn’t put out there “oh I wanna get dumped in a painful and heartbreaking way”. No, what I put out there was I’m ready to have a relationship that matches my joyful energy. One that fits the me I am now and is rewarding and fun. Do you see the difference there? In one perspective I’m a horrible person that brought it on myself, in the other scenario I’m an empowered human being making room for the magnificence. That mindset shift, that subtle difference in perspective is a very powerful thing. And I invite you to see if you can’t make that same shift the next time you find yourself stuck in a situation that makes you feel like you know you’re better than being stuck in, but can’t quite get beyond. Two questions for you. 1- Am I unknowingly playing the victim here? 2- If I were to view this through the lens of the absolute certainty that it’s for my highest good, how does this serve me? Those answers should be pretty helpful and before you know it you’ll be feeling just as footloose and fancy free as I am after that epic realization. PS. This week I’m doing LBL Week and I figured next week’s blog I’ll recap all the things that happened. I feel like sharing my results will be a fun way for you to see the effects of a mindset shift. And I’m nothing if not honest so you’ll get my ups and downs. Life ain’t perfect baby but it sure is grand!! If you want to do LBL Week here’s the link for your FREE guide to set yourself up for success. My Failed Relationship – A Cautionary Tale I saw this post while scrolling through IG this weekend. And I shared it to my stories and captioned it with, “I waited to let go of somebody that didn’t serve me and it was ultimately harder on me when it ended badly”. Now, don’t get me twisted, I got A LOT out of staying in that tumultuous relationship. It helped shape me into the entrepreneur and coach I am today. The lessons were priceless. I wouldn’t change what I did, but I have learned something else rather invaluable in hindsight that I get to take with me in the future. The emotional fallout of clinging to an attachment, be it to a person, job, house, etc, is far greater than the pain you’ll feel if you let it go when intuition tells you it no longer serves you. I know for a fact that if I had honored my doubts and intuition when that man first started showing me through actions that he wasn’t going to be there for me as a true partner regardless of what his words said, I would have been saved some fairly devastating and incredibly painful heartbreak. So why didn’t I? Well, there were a few shining moments in that relationship that helped show me what real love looks like. For the first time in my adult life I found out what it felt like to be cherished, appreciated, accepted for me, loved, and valued. Granted, I can’t tell you if he truly felt that way because to this day his feelings remain a mystery to me. But I felt that from him in the moment and, I think, the fear of the pain that comes with losing that is why I stayed in it longer than I needed to. I knew leaving him would leave an empty place in my heart. Getting used to being single again after so many years would be uncomfortable. I’d have to accept that I had put the power to make me happy into his hands and out of mine, and there was disappointment in acknowledging it that I really didn’t want to feel. So, I stayed. I stayed in a relationship that did not serve me, that left me lonely and unsure, and then got ripped cruelly away from me in a way that rocked my world. Fear is like Fertilizer I could have avoided a lot of pain if I hadn’t been afraid of a little of it. Like I said, it helped shape me and still teaches me to this day, so I don’t regret it. But I’ll be honest, I still have occasional fallout from it that I am working on. There are still moments of doubt and judgement that I know I absolutely don’t deserve to experience. And you can bet your bottom dollar that in the future I will absolutely embrace a little pain to save myself from agony like that. Because while I accept pain as a part of the human experience, it never has to be that crippling. If we just acknowledge that pain will happen, if we embrace it as the learning tool and presenter of opportunities that it is, instead of fear it…we will be far better off in the long run. Because here’s the thing, we’re so tied to this perspective of emotional pain being bad, as something that detracts from life, that we avoid it as if our life depended on it. When really, it is one of our best teachers. When I look back to jobs I didn’t like but stayed at only to get fired…ugh I knew but I let fear keep me in it. Because being broke and jobless is scary. And yet, my few times on unemployment back in the day were some of the best I’ve ever had. I thrived. Or, as somebody who suffers from anxiety, I’ll avoid driving or going to a store solo because anxiety is scary. And yet, 99% of the time I do those things I’m absolutely fine and feeling empowered just for having done them. We run from the pain when, half the time it isn’t even painful and the other half the pain is nowhere near as bad as you think it will be or that it ultimately ends up being by having avoided it in the first place. If You Like It Buy 3 Pairs So yes, I’ll also be applying this to every aspect of my life, not just relationships. After all, if you find a pair of flattering jeans you buy 3 pairs right? Also, keep in mind the other aspect to this. If we’re so busy being afraid of what the future holds, we’re robbed of enjoying the present moment. And we absolutely deserve to enjoy it, all of it! The relationship, the job, the friendship, the trip… all of it. The good days, the bad days, because yes on the journey to joyful you will still have both. The downs in life are still very much serving a purpose. The contrast of the ups and downs make the ups so much more beautiful. So we should be enjoying it all! As long as it is serving our highest good. How do we know if it’s serving our highest good? Well ask yourself some questions and answer them honestly from your heart. Does it light you up inside, does it make you want to be the best version of yourself, does it benefit you and those around you? Does it add to your life, or does it diminish it? How does it make you feel in the long term not just the short term. Do the positives outweigh the negatives? At the end of the day, you know. Sure the questions help, but your intuition and emotions guide you fairly accurately. I can honestly say mine have never been wrong. Sure, I’ve ignored them, but they’ve never been wrong. That’s It, That’s All I mean there’s really not a lot more to say, this is one of those blog posts where social media got my brain going and I wanted to share my thoughts. End of the day, I bet you can go through your mental rolodex of memories and pick out a few instances where you decided to cling to something that didn’t serve you out of fear of the pain of letting it go. I know I’m not the only one, hell that IG post wouldn’t be there if I was! You don’t even have to admit it to anybody other than yourself. And please do not judge yourself for having done it!!! We are human, we try to avoid pain even when the pain can heal us because that’s how we’ve been conditioned. To look to instant gratification, not life lessons through painful moments. What matters the most is we recognize it and try to do better the next time. Because all anybody can do is their best. What do you think? How many times have you avoided letting something go just to avoid the pain of its loss? Turning From Head to Heart Between prepping for the release of my mini-MasterClass and my wine industry work, I have been a very busy lady lately. And while it’s in the best possible way, there were moments when my head was spinning and tapping into my heart for answers seemed a bit more challenging than usual. Which isn't all that surprising because when the mind is clamoring for attention the heart often gets overlooked. Now it may be normal for our brains and egos to take the lead, and to get overwhelmed sometimes in the process, but we don't have to lean into that. We can choose to take a beat to realign with the soothing, loving energy of our heart and let it guide us. Not only can we, but we should. Because I promise you, it feels so much better that way. (Spoiler Alert: Scroll down for a guided video to help do just that) Step one, realize when it’s time to shift. Recognizing when it’s time to shift from leading with our head to leading with our heart can be easy in some moments and trickier in others. If we want to go from analytical action based us to creative us, or soul-searching truth seeking us, it’s fairly obvious. Or perhaps we’re stressed and feeling like life’s a bit chaotic, which are probably the most easily recognizable moments. Honestly there are a myriad of other reasons why we might want to tune into the gentle, loving energy of our heart and let it lead, some recognizable and some not. So how can we tell if it’s one that isn’t recognizable? For that we tune into the detection system that is our physical body. I try to scan my body periodically throughout the day, and it’s something I highly recommend getting into the habit of if you find yourself frequently getting overwhelmed and stressed. Sometimes it's easy to recognize when the brain and ego are letting chaos lead. Your energy is frenetic, your focus is shot, your body is tense. It doesn't feel great. Yet at other times you're plugging away at tasks, hyper focused on achieving, feeling pretty productive. You’re feeling proud of yourself and unstoppable. But here's the kicker, sometimes even in those powerhouse moments if you tune in you’ll find you’re still tense. Now, I’m all for the, "look at me being a bad ass and getting shit done!" moments. But I also know that being in that mode for a prolonged amount of time doesn't serve me. I'm not tapped into my connection with source or my heart. And it might take a bit to recognize but eventually I feel it, I'm a machine. Step two, tap back into the heart. Whether you’ve tuned into your body and recognized you're not leading with your heart, or you're wanting to sit down and get to know yourself, or you want some guidance from the universe…you realized it’s time for a shift. Which means it's time to give yourself a pattern interrupt. A few minutes where your focus is moved away from the external and is absolutely singular. Now, I love meditation, and you'll find me often having a 5 minute quickie meditation session when I need to realign, but one of the easier ways to make that shift is with breathing exercises. Breathing exercises help to disengage your mind from stressful and distracting thoughts and sensations, help to decrease anxiety, and aid in relaxation. They are a very effective pattern interrupt. One of my absolute favorites, 16 seconds, was taught to me by my mentor davidji. The beauty of this exercise is that it only takes 16 seconds, barely any time at all, to give yourself that needed interruption and set yourself up for success. With this exercise the momentum from “chaotic” you has been halted making tuning into your heart a much more effortless process. I’ve also found that with my focus on my breathing, already looking inwardly, the shift to looking within for guidance and answers is a much easier process. In mere moments you feel the soothing energy of the heart washing over you. It’s a much needed release from stress and you can feel the chaos melt away as the heart takes the lead from the mind. 16 Seconds FTW Of course, there are other ways for you to tap into leading with your heart. Sometimes it can be as easy as saying hmmm, it's time to pump the breaks a bit. How can I nurture myself and follow my joy? Other times it can take a good 20-30 minute meditation session. But regardless of which way you choose, or feel called to follow, to tap back into the gentler energy of your heart, trying 16 seconds out beforehand will make it much more effortless. In fact, sometimes that 16 seconds is all it takes. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Today's blog freebie is a guided video of the 16 second process. New Year New You or Are You Already at We’ll Try Again Next Year? It’s a brand-new year, ripe with possibilities! Now by a show of hands, how many of you have already lost steam, or even given up, on your New Year’s resolution? To everybody who raised their hand, not only are you NOT alone but I also have a perspective shift that can get you right back on track. And for those of you still going strong, congrats!! Although, I still invite you to keep reading because what I’m about to share is something you can utilize to keep that momentum going. If any of you are wondering how I’ve done let me throw you a curveball. I don’t do resolutions anymore. Nope, instead I focus on setting intentions, and I’ve found that it is far more effective than any type of resolution. So, let’s dive into the world of intention setting and if you manage to hang in there, I’ll take you through an intention setting exercise and give you a pdf that you can use as often as you want to check in with your progress. Intentions vs Resolutions You may be asking, Lindley what’s the difference? Well, I’m pretty sure you are probably familiar with a resolution. With a resolution it’s all about the endgame, that goal. Yes, you may change this or start that now, but all of your focus is down the line on that end result. It’s pretty cut and dried, I want this so I have to implement that. When you’re setting an intention however, you’re making a perspective shift in which you commit to a way of being and living. An intention can be a trait, quality, or characteristics that you want to embody at the highest level you can. In short, it’s an aspect of yourself that you want to fully embrace and cultivate so that it’s present in all aspects of yourself and your life. When you set an intention, you aren’t just making an isolated change, instead you allow it to flow into every part of you. For example, this year my intention is to really make my connection to source a priority. That means that I’ll be making shifts mentally, physically, and emotionally so that maintaining that connection is easier. My diet, how active I am, how I interact with others, how I treat myself, how I show up at work, the content I scroll, etc. etc. etc will all change to some degree. Once you’ve set an intention you simply ask yourself, how can I embody “insert intention here” in my everyday life, and do that thing. You aren’t chasing an end result, just shifting your lifestyle so your behavior, thoughts, actions, and words align with that new intention. Now & Later There’s a lot of things I love about setting intentions but one of the main reasons I find them better than making a resolution is that it keeps you in the present. We as humans spend so much of our time looking backwards or forwards that we don’t need any help with that. The thing about resolutions, is that they tend to keep you focused solely on the future, when instead we should be paying more attention to the now. After all, it’s the only moment we have. The past is done and can’t be changed, and there are zero guarantees that we’ll ever get that future we’re imagining. So why would be living our lives for a future version of ourselves and ignoring all that beautiful progress we’re making in the moment? Life is a journey that should be enjoyed, you don’t want to get to the end and wonder why you missed it all. Setting an intention is all about planting the seed and not worrying about the fruit of your labors. After all, when the farmer plants his crop he’s not freaking out when it hasn’t sprouted the next day. He knows it takes time for the soil to nurture the seed before he sees results. He has faith that all will end well. When we plant that intention seed it allows us to have fun with the process and play around with which lifestyle shifts we make to align with it. It takes the pressure off. Plus, we as a society are all about immediate gratification, so when we don’t get it the likelihood of us giving up on a resolution increases. Yet, with an intention, you actually get to start shifting your way of being immediately. And I’ve yet to meet a single person who makes a positive shift and doesn’t see some type of immediate positive result that gains momentum as it goes. It really is a rewarding process. Self-Love Another reason I don’t love resolutions is that they aren’t really kind to us. We perceive ourselves as unworthy, as less than, until we meet that goal. If we’re constantly putting requisites on our value, our worth, and our happiness we’ll never get there. Then, if we miss a day on our way to that goal, it can wreak havoc on our self-esteem. In some cases, it’s enough to stop us from trying altogether. Now with intentions, there’s no real way to fall off course. We tend to view them on more of a sliding scale. So, if you only managed to give about 10% of yourself over to that intention, there’s nothing to feel guilty over! You don’t have to hype yourself up to get back on track again, you did your best for that day and since every day is a fresh start you just give it some more effort tomorrow. It really is one of the kindest and most empowering things you can do for yourself, because it is all for you. There’s no real way to do it wrong, and it’s flexible. Intentions work for and with you, they don’t get messed up when life is stressful or full of changes. An intention is something you can always come back to and reaffirm or shift as your priorities and needs change. Plus, you get to implement it in any way that honors you and feels best. Sure, you can set them at the beginning of the year, but you can also make it a part of your daily morning ritual. Want a bit more accountability? Why not start a nightly, weekly, or even monthly ritual to gauge how in alignment with your intention you are. It’s an opportunity for some real one on one self-love time. Honestly, intention setting is my favorite time of the day. Let’s Set Intentions! I think it’s pretty obvious that I can probably go on and on about why I favor setting intentions over making resolutions, but I’ll save your eyes from all that reading. Instead, let’s take a few minutes to set our intentions together. In the video below I’ll walk you through a guided intention setting process. We’ll ask some sacred questions, then based on those answers, we’ll set our intentions. If you feel like you aren’t quite clear yet on what you’d like your intention(s) to be, that’s ok there’s no pressure! Instead, I invite you to take some time, maybe grab a journal, and look inside to let your heart tell you what values truly call to you. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, I am always here and MORE than happy to help. As an extra bonus, if you want some help with a daily, weekly, or nightly intention check in here’s a worksheet you can use. I'm going through a transition phase in my life. I mean, when are you not but this one is especially poignant. I'm losing people I thought were in my front row. And that's ok! But it isn't to say it's easy, because letting go of people you love can be a very painful and scary thing to do. I've had to remind myself of just how far I've come on my journey and what that means. I am fundamentally changed, deep change on a cellular level, vibrating higher than I ever have, with a consciousness that has been unalterable shifted. That's no small feat. But it also means that I'm not attracting or vibing with the same people I once did. Nope, the universe has a bit more love, loyalty, and support heading my way.
The people I've lost in this journey all share some similar traits. I didn't realize that until I sat down and started writing this. But they are all at least a little broken, all suffering, and all in denial that they have the power to change their lives. They all have potential, they all have huge beautiful hearts capable of so much love and joy, they all have a desire for change.... but not a single one of them wants to let go of their hurt/trauma/pain/perspective or shift their thinking to do it. They are all happy to receive the benefits of my friendship, especially the unconditional love, loyalty, and emotional support... but not a single one of them offers it back to me. In fact, they may have been in my front row but they weren't actually supporting me, they just weren't trying to stop me from succeeding. And that's OK, I forgive them and myself for not seeing it sooner. After all, we're human and have years of conditioning to overcome. We all are doing the very best we can. But here's the thing, the universe is removing them from my life because having a squad of deeply troubled people to commiserate with no longer serves me and I can no longer offer them anything of value. Everything happens for a reason. Man don't you sometimes hate that little gem? It can be such a small comfort that what's happening is actually creating something amazing in your life when you're faced with solitude and loneliness. But like I recently read on an oracle card I pulled... "When you stop fearing aloneness you stop settling for less than you deserve". Gotta get rid of the bullshit to make room for the magnificent. And isn't the thought of people who truly vibe with you, support you, actively lift you up and make your life richer and more joyful surrounding you an exciting prospect? I firmly believe that's what happens when you lose relationships and friendships that you thought would span a lifetime, because it usually takes place during or after a time of significant personally and spiritual growth. So instead of wallowing in loss I'm choosing to embrace the change. Change has always been good for me, and the irony of change being my constant in life is noted and absolutely delicious. I can release what no longer serves me because I know I'm attracting something that does. I will miss these people, and I truly hope that they find joy and reach that potential that shines so brightly from them, but I'm also excited to see what I'm drawing to me at this point in my life. To embrace the new kindred spirits that I'm about to meet. And while I wait for them to flow into my life with divine timing I continue to explore myself and follow my joy. Because being alone for a bit doesn't have to equate to being lonely. There will be days, in fact there have been already, where I have to remind myself that what's headed my way will far surpass what's behind me. That the new people that will enter my life will show me just how wonderful it was that I did let go. Each and every time I tap into that feeling, the feeling of being around people who love, respect, and support you...the people that match your energy....oh that feels good. I come alive with joy and smile. So I'll treat myself that way for a bit and have a great time celebrating their arrival when they show up. Because being alone doesn't have to make me lonely, instead I can let it be the sign that I'm on the precipice of some truly wonderful company. |
